Here are a few examples from my scrapbook collection.

Mark Twain Patented Scrapbook, 1882

Mark Twain was an enthusiastic scrapbook keeper. Frustrated with dried-out paste pots, he invented a scrapbook album with gummed pages that only needed to be moistened. He earned more money from his scrapbook patent than from all of his novels combined.

Victorian Child’s Scrapbook,
ca. 1895.

With the advent of chromolithography, children collected brightly colored postcards and trade cards in albums.

Sylvia Peter Baby Book, 1918

In the early 20th century, preprinted baby books were published to record every milestone of a baby’s progress from first haircut to first steps.
